Bride Market

The annual gathering of the Thracian tinkers (Kalaidzhii) on the feast of St.Theodore in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, is an opportunity for the young people of this community to meet potential mates, while their parents stay discreetly around. If a couple decides they want to marry, the families traditionally start bargain for the price of the bride. For this ritual the gathering is also known as “Bride market”.
